Admissions Policy/Overview

Notre Dame Academy is an independent, Marist-sponsored, school based on the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. Notre Dame is the only Catholic elementary school in the United States to have earned the International Baccalaureate World School authorization.  The school embraces cultural diversity, welcomes all religious faiths and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin. As principles of good practice, Notre Dame Academy will:

  • Seek to ensure an appropriate match between a prospective family and the mission of the institution.
  • Accept students for whom there is a reasonable expectation of success from the program.
  • Provide families with the information needed to make an informed school choice.
  • Clarify the application process by identifying the documents needed, due dates and application fee.
  • Respect applicants' need for confidentiality.
  • Communicate a clear timeline for acceptance of an enrollment offer and the financial responsibilities of accepting this offer.
  • Follow the admission timeline set forth by the Atlanta Area Association of Independent Schools (AAAIS).

Notre Dame Academy will not recruit students from other independent schools.

Admissions Criteria

Acceptance at Notre Dame Academy is based on a number of factors:

  • Prior to Kindergarten applicants are first come, first served.
  • Applicants Kindergarten age and older are considered in order of demonstrated commitment to the practice of the Catholic faith, active in another faith, non-active Catholic families, and then all other families. We do this in an effort to maintain our balance of 75% Catholic and 25% non-Catholic students.
  • Notre Dame provides a sibling preference for those who apply prior to the 1st Grade.
  • Report Cards/Transcripts.
  • Standardized test results, i.e., ITBS, CogAt, etc.
  • Demonstrated congruence between earned grades and scores on standardized tests.
  • Teacher recommendations.
  • Age appropriate to grade level.
  • Other pertinent information concerning the student.
  • Students applying to 1st and 6th Grades will complete a placement assessment
  • Middle School Admission - This is limited to 7th and 8th graders who have relocated from another state or relatively distant community.
