Knowledge is one of the Five Pillars of Notre Dame Academy. ND Academy's International Baccalaureate accreditation provides a unique global learning environment with differentiated instruction to meet the academic needs of all learners.
Notre Dame Academy is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School for the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for Pre-K3 through 5th grade, and an authorized IB World School for the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for 6th through 10th grade. In May of 2015, ND Academy became a candidate school for the Diploma Programme* (DP).
Notre Dame Academy uses the framework of the IB for curriculum. This program directs the manner in which classes are taught by encouraging hands-on learning and by teaching concepts across different subject areas. Here is an overview of Notre Dame Academy's key programs:
International Baccalaureate Programme
Notre Dame Academy breaks down the IB PYP into two groups: age 3 through kindergarten and first through fifth grade. Students in grades sixth through tenth are taught using the IB MYP. All IB programs are international, transdisciplinary programs designed to foster the development of the whole child.
Fit for Life
This program includes a daily physical education curriculum designed to optimize personal fitness for all ages.
This curriculum element is a year-long program where students learn social responsibility by participating in a major service project each year.
Almost every classroom is equipped with an interactive white board and LCD projector that encourage interactive learning and bring the world into the classroom. In addition, students take the following classes:
- Language Arts
- Social Studies
- Physical Education
*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
